Specialist support for our emergency services
About DSRT Ashburton
The Dartmoor Search and Rescue team are a charity of 60+ volunteers on call 24/7 originally based in Ashburton. They are dedicated to assisting the emergency services with the search and rescue of the lost, missing, injured and vulnerable including those with dementia, mental health illnesses and children. They bring a set of specialist skills and equipment which are essential in many emergency situations, particularly in rugged or remote rural situations.
Without volunteer search and rescue teams like DSRT, the emergency services would not have the resources to devote to the search and rescue of missing or injured loved ones.
Needs
There are significant running costs for the DSRT who are wholly reliant on volunteer team members and donations from the public in order to enable them to provide a critical service to our community. Much of their volunteers' time is spent fundraising.
Project
Specialist equipment is critical in many emergency situations - some of the equipment used is highly specialised due to the nature of the rescues that the team is involved in. However, there are a number of key items which are in reach of our fundraising goals and would go a long way in enabling the team to assist people in an emergency.
Budget
We are hoping to raise enough to pay for as many of these items as possible:
£500 would pay for a full set of reusable vacuum splints;
£200 a full system to administer Entonox (gas and air) to injured patients;
£100 a set of specialist casualty packaging blankets to reduce heat loss and combat hypothermia.
Fundraising
To support the Ashburton branch of Dartmoor Search and Rescue choose the "Portreeve's Pick" when eating out at your favourite local pub or restaurant.
Should we be lucky enough to exceed our target, the surplus will go towards our other supported causes.
