Critical Ashburton based rescue team benefits from the Portreeve’s Pick campaign
Following a training exercise for water based incidents, Neil Graham, Chair of Ashburton based Dartmoor Search & Rescue Team (DSRT) accepted a cheque for £500 at the Dartmoor Lodge Hotel. The money will be used to purchase essential equipment used by the team.
About the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team
The Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team is a charity with 60+ volunteers dedicated to assisting the emergency services with the search and rescue of the lost, missing, injured and vulnerable including those with dementia, mental health illnesses and children.
The DSRT's specialist skills are critical in remote rural locations like Dartmoor
They bring a set of specialist skills and equipment which are essential in many emergency situations, particularly in rugged or remote rural situations. The critical need for the team was brought home during our meeting when a call was received - having already spent the evening undertaking a water based training exercise for over 2 hours, the team was now heading out to spend the following 5 hours assisting the emergency services in a remote rural location, in the dark!

The Portreeve's Pick
Choose the Portreeve's Pick to support important local causes
We have been fundraising for several causes that help the local community and have been supported by several of Ashburton’s foody businesses who are participating in the Portreeve’s Pick campaign. When you choose the “Portreeve’s Pick” menu option, part of the proceeds are donated to support important local causes, not only will you be supporting a local business - you will be raising funds to help our community! It all adds up and a little goes a long way!
The donation to the DSRT was raised from contributions to the Portreeve’s Pick campaign with the support of Diane Crouchen and the Dartmoor Lodge and funding from Grey Matter Ltd. Thanks also to Mark Burley at Sherewood Gallery for designing and printing the cheque for us.
Supporting The Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team
Funding help is needed to purchase the specialist equipment necessary to operate under difficult conditions - a stretcher costs almost £3,000 and a fully loaded kit bag in excess of £1,500. The £500 donated would cover the cost of a set of vacuum splints used to stabilise patients.
If you shop on Amazon you can support DSRT by setting them as your Amazon Smile chosen charity - just click the Amazon Smile button.
