The renamed Autumn Club brings socially isolated people together
About The Spring Chicken Group
An informal meeting group to bring together those most in need of some company, a chat over a cup of tea, a little quiz or a game of bingo and sometimes a mystery tour around the countryside by coach.
The group is a particularly important lifeline for anyone in Ashburton or the surrounding area who has felt socially isolated during the pandemic and is now ready to come out to meet old friends and make some new ones.
The group usually meets on the second Monday of every month at S. Andrews Church Hall in Ashburton from 2 to 4 pm.
The fundraiser is now closed!
Update 18th June 2022 - the online fundraiser is now closed having raised £30 towards the cost of the trip. The rest was funded from money raised by participants in the Portreeve's Pick campaign and a donation by Grey Matter. The Spring Chickens were able to enjoy their Mystery Tour of Dartmoor followed by tea at the Moorland Hotel on Monday 13th June. Thank you all for your support!
Needs
Many members have no family living locally, and no one at all to take them out. Some members have not been able to venture outside of the town at all for at least three years. So in addition to regular meetings, the group organises occasional trips around the area, but these are costly and need external funding.
Project
We aim to fund a "Mystery Tour", a coach trip
around the surrounding area, ending up somewhere for a cup of tea and cake or a sticky bun.
The pure enjoyment of seeing our lovely countryside and coastline has a tremendous effect on wellbeing that cannot be underestimated, particularly for those that have been cut off from family and friends during the pandemic.
Budget
A "Mystery Tour" will cost upwards of £400 for the group.
Fundraising
To help fund a Spring Chicken Group Mystery Tour you can donate online, it doesn't have to be a lot, remember a little goes a long way! Or eat out at participating businesses and choose the Portreeve's Pick.
Should we be lucky enough to exceed our target, the surplus will go towards our other supported causes.
